Where does this data come from?
- The data is collected by homeless service providers and entered into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). Not every service provider is required to utilize HMIS, nor is every person experiencing homelessness or at-risk of homelessness able to connect to services, therefore, data only includes what is known to the system.
Why might data change?
- HMIS is a live database, with continuous data entry. If data entry is delayed or updated, previously reported data may change. These changes ensure that data remains accurate over time and remains consistent with the information reported to the State through the Homeless Data Integration System (HDIS).
What is the difference between this data and the Point in Time (PIT)?
- The dashboard uses continuously updated data from HMIS. It reflects people who are actively utilizing services like emergency shelter, rapid rehousing, or case management throughout the community. The dashboard is updated quarterly and shows trends over time. The PIT count is a snapshot of homelessness during a single night in January and remains static until the next PIT count is conducted.
